High School isn’t as Scary as it May Sound
It can be extremely nerve racking to enter high school. Incoming freshman face a lot of rumors and fears to overcome. Our society likes to paint false images of high school through the media. It had everyone separated into groups and cliques that can barely intertwine without something going wrong. You have to overcome fear from the rumors of freshman being hazed into the hallways. The first year of high school is a coming to age experience, not a painful one.
High school doesn’t have as many social rules as TV pretends it does. Unless you fall into a twilight zone, it’s very unlikely that your high school will have rigid lines of separation. Cliques don’t really exist any more. Everyone has the close knit group of friends, but there are no rules that say you can or cannot be friends with other people. All that matters is who likes who. In some situations, you may attend a high school where everyone is friends. It is a dime a dozen, but there are high schools where everyone knows everyone.
If you don’t think you can fit into a high school with so many people that you will never know everyone, you can go to a smaller one. If your community is too large, you can enroll in private school to get a smaller community. Private schools can grant a student the opportunity to reach out to their class mates and get a different experience.
In addition, freshman don’t get hazed or bullied like people say. It is against the law to haze people anyway. Plus,. Competition between classes is for fun and in good intention, not to fuel hate or bad feelings. The battle between upperclassmen and the younger kids should never go beyond healthy bantering. Its is clearly wrong for any physical contact or extreme bullying. School officials would never allow something like this to go on. No High school wants their hallways to be a war zone.
The hardest part of high school is honestly managing the work load. High school is a time to be in constant over drive. People are playing multiple sports while being involved in clubs and maintaining their grades. Never before have kids been pushed to do so many things at once, but it is doable. Being stressed is just part of the high school experience.. People just have fun trying to make freshman nervous, that’s all it is. Your clothes or book bag won’t get you beat up. High school is a positive experience.
